Driving the Tail of the Dragon

If you’re not familiar with the Tail of the Dragon, well get ready to for a great drive. This 11-mile section of US Rte 127 in the Great Smoky Mountains stretches from Tennessee to North Carolina. The formal names are Tapoca Road (NC)  and Calderwood Highway (TN)

Boasting over 300 turns in this relatively short piece of road, with names like “Crud Corner”, “Hog Pen Bend” and “The Whip”, you won’t be disappointed. Drive carefully though, or you might end up on the Tree of Shame.

Watch as Autoblog hosts Jessie Combs and Patrick Mcintyre take a 2013 Porsche Boxster S down the Tail.

Keep in mind, the posted speed limit is 30 mph, and as you’ll see in the video, speeding isn’t a good idea.

Watch their ride now.
